Sundar. C’s Baak, the latest in the Aranmanai franchise, offers horror with a dose of comedy. Here’s our take.
Story:
Shiva Shankar (Sundar C), a lawyer, is shocked by his sister Shivani’s (Tamannaah) alleged suicide and her husband’s mysterious death. Determined to uncover the truth, Shiva Shankar embarks on a journey to unravel the mysteries surrounding their deaths.
Pros:
Baak shines in technical finesse, boasting impressive visuals, background score, and production values.
Effective horror effects and a gripping background score by Hip Hop Tamizha enhance the movie’s scary moments.
Exciting events before the interval raise curiosity about the plot’s direction.
Sundar C delivers a solid performance, complemented by impactful appearances by Tamannaah and Raashii Khanna.
Cons:
The inclusion of unnecessary comedy tracks dilutes the impact and feels out of place, especially with Vennela Kishore and Sreenivas Reddy’s antics.
Baak follows a routine template typical of the Aranmanai franchise, lacking novelty in its content.
After the big reveal, the plot becomes predictable, and attempts at emotional depth slow down the pacing, particularly in the second half.
The editing could have been tighter, and certain scenes, especially the end song, could have been omitted for better flow.
Technical Aspects:
Baak excels in technical aspects, with impressive background score, cinematography, and production values.
Director Sundar. C’s narration engages in parts, but the unnecessary comedy scenes hinder the film’s flow and impact.
Verdict:
Baak offers a routine story with impressive horror elements but is marred by unnecessary comedy tracks. While technically sound, the film’s predictability and pacing issues make it an underwhelming watch.
